Chief Timothy P. Deems is the leader of the largest municipal police department in Southern West Virginia. He has served the citizens of Beckley for over 16 years. Prior to assuming his current position, he served the Beckley Police Department as a Patrolman, Precinct Commander, Shift Commander and Chief of Narcotics.
Timothy P. Deems was sworn in as a police officer for the City of Beckley in 1991 where he worked in the Patrol Division. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1998 and was assigned to the East Beckley Precinct as the Precinct Commander. He attended the FBI National Academy 208th Session in 2002 where he completed 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management, and fitness training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2005 and worked as a Shift Commander in the Patrol Division. He was assigned to the Narcotics Enforcement Division in 2006 as the Chief of Narcotics.
Lieutenant Deems was appointed Chief of Police in June 2007.
