To Serve and Protect
Keep all doors and windows closed and locked.
Doors should have deadbolt locks with a one inch throw and reinforced strike plate.
All windows should have window locks.
Sliding glass doors should be secured with vertical bolts or metal rods.
Lock doors to attached garage.
Make home appear occupied by using timers on lights, radios, and T.V’s.
Keep the perimeter of your home well lit.
Arrange for a friend or neighbor to pick up mail, newspapers, and other packages.
Keep some shades and blinds up and curtains open to maintain a normal, everyday appearance.
Leave a normal message on your answering machine and avoid discussing your vacation plan in public.
Keep your shrubbery and trees trimmed. These areas (if not maintained) may provide a hiding place for burglars who only need a minute to break in through a window or door.
