The Backbone of the Beckley Police Department is made up of patrol officers.
While other specialty areas may receive more attention, it is the men and women on patrol that interact with and serve the community every day.
Each year BPD patrol officers respond to or self initiate well over 20,000 calls for service in the City of Beckley.
Patrol officers are responsible for police protection of the city, responding for calls for service, and enforcement of local ordinances and state laws, as well as traffic enforcement and monitoring traffic problems.
Patrol operates around the clock by three shifts of officers providing 24 hours of continuous coverage. The patrol division is commanded by two Captains and one Lieutenant.
