Vacation Crime Prevention Tips
You can make each trip more enjoyable and carefree if you take a few simple steps to reduce the possibility that your house will be burglarized.
1. Make sure all locks on the doors and windows function.
2. Put automatic timers on several lights throughout the home. Set the timers so appliances will turn off and on at random times.
3. Arrange for a friend or neighbor to pick up mail, newspapers, and other packages.
4. Ask your neighbors to use your drive way or parking area.
5. Make sure smoke and burglar alarms function properly and are armed.
6. Leave a normal message on your answering machine and avoid discussing your vacation plan in public.
7. Ask a trusted friend or neighbor to watch over your property while you are gone and leave emergency contact information with them.
